I Put My Trust In You

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.

Psalm 56:3

Anxiety often makes us feel alone. I know I can feel that way often. Then I laugh as I remember the level of audacity I have to think I am carrying my worries by myself. But God’s Word reminds us that we are never truly alone. In Psalm 56:3, David acknowledges his fear but chooses to place his trust in God. Trusting God doesn’t mean we’ll never feel anxious—it means we know where to turn when anxiety comes.

A few years ago I went to a show and for some reason I started feeling anxious. I remembered to lean on Jesus and trust He would be there for me. All I did was say a simple prayer that He would be with me in that moment. I immediately felt peace wash over me to the point where I could enjoy the evening without a thought.

Deuteronomy 31:6 is another powerful reminder that God goes with us. He is not distant; He is walking beside us in every fearful moment, every sleepless night, and every moment of anxiety. He is there, just call on him. He is our peace and he is trustworthy.

Prayer when anxiety hits: “Lord be with me and take this feeling of anxiety. I cast it on you and exchange it for peace as I trust that you are near.”
