The Power of Words

Devotional Written by Awaken Team Member, Char Miles

Proverbs 18:21

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

The other day I was on Facebook and watching a few reels. I came across a reel that had big bold words attached to it. The title of this reel was, The Devil Can’t Read. This caught my attention so of course I clicked on it. It was pretty powerful. The reel went on to say the devil cannot read your mind, but he prowls like a lion when you speak, looking for an opening to devour.

When we use words to condemn, ridicule, intimidate, and demean ourselves or others, we are giving the evil one a foothold. Don’t do it. We have enough trouble living in this world today. Let our words convey compassion, gentleness, empathy, kindness, encouragement, forgiveness, and of course love.

Let us remember when we speak; we have the opportunity to build up or tear apart. Let us remember when we speak, the words cannot be unheard. Let us also remember the tone in which we speak, are you conveying kindness or ridicule? Therefore, let us pause and think before we speak.

Proverbs 18:20

From the fruit of their mouth, a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips, they are satisfied.

Romans 16:20

The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
