Into God's Word

"I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden riches of secret places, That you may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel.” - Isaiah 45:3 NKJV

First a history lesson then a personal meaning. The history of this verse comes from Cyrus the king of the Persians who gathered tremendous wealth from the nations that he conquered. By the hand of God, Cyrus eventually conquered Babylon and freed the Jews to return to their home. This is where I normally stopped with interpretation of this verse.

I listened to a Pastor this weekend that had a different take on this verse which made it much more personal to me. We all experience darkness in our lives. We often times keep those dark places secret and do not divulge them to others. We keep them in secret places because we are either too sad, scared or embarrassed. Can we look at this verse as meaning that the darkness in our lives can yield treasure and hidden riches in those secret places?

2 Corinthians 12:8 says “Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

The power of God is made perfect in our darkest troubles when we realize that we make it through, not of our strength but His. He is a treasure in that hidden place.

He provides us others who console us and may have been in the same dark place. They are hidden treasures.

He teaches us from the darkness. I learn from difficulties and they stick in my mind. Our learning from the darkness can become a treasure to others who experience similar darkness.

God’s Word is amazing. It has so much depth. Let’s awaken to the full meaning of God’s Word!
