Find Rest in Him

Key Verse: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like five years have already passed in 2024. Can anyone else relate? It’s almost June, and some rest for my soul sounds great right about now. I have a bad habit of pushing off rest. “I’ll take a break next weekend,” I say. “I’ll rest in July,” I promise myself. However, no matter what my intentions may be, I often find myself making tons of plans, committing to too many things, and failing to truly rest. In these moments, when I’m exhausted and overwhelmed, I’m reminded that this isn’t how the Lord intends for us to live. Matthew 11:28-30 invites us — commands us, actually — to pursue a letter way of life. One of my favorite parts of this verse is that Jesus calls us to learn from Him. Finding rest for our soul requires that we spend time learning from Jesus: studying His word, sitting in silence in His presence, and listening for His voice. He invites us to an easy burden as we walk along with Him!
