The Government Shall Be On His Shoulders

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6 (ESV)

I have heard alarming statistics that many Christians are not planning to vote. The reasons vary from not liking the candidate choices, not seeing the need to vote, or that politics has no place in the church.

As you can see from the Isaiah 9:6 verse, Jesus was referenced as being a part of the government before He ever came to Earth. God is very invested in having a godly, earthly government. If we decide not to have a voice in politics and elections we are leaving the future of our children, finances, health, and freedom in the hands of non-Christians. We must realize that we are voting for leaders who will uphold our freedoms, including religious freedoms, and that we are not voting for our next pastor. I also appreciate that many have lost their lives to ensure we have the right to vote. I am asking you to not let their sacrifices be of no value. The right to have a voice in deciding who and with what values will lead our country and our future is a right we should treasure. I am urging all who call themselves followers of Christ to uphold their duty and right and get out and vote! We at Awaken urge you to wake up to your responsibility to vote for godly leaders. Feel free to share your thoughts on voting as Christians verses choosing not to vote.

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” – 1 Timothy 2:1-2
